NOVICE GUNDOG WORKING TEST FOR A/V RETRIEVER

SUNDAY, 19 MARCH 2023 AT STUDLEY, FOUNTAINS ABBEY, NR RIPON

By kind permission of Mr Julian Fenton &

Mr Andrew Richards (Head Keeper Fountains Abbey)

The Vale of York Working Retriever Club kicked off their 2023 Working Gundog Test Season at Studley today – Mother’s Day – 19 March 2023. We were able to put this test on due to the very kind permission of Mr Julian Fenton (Landowner) and Mr Andrew Richards (Head Keeper).

Following a last-minute change of meeting location everyone met at The Pheasantries in good time and in glorious sunshine.

Our judges for the day were Paul Stogden (B3661), Margaret Pearce (NP), Brian Dodsworth (NP) and Victoria Waterfield (NP).

Four static tests were the order of the day, one devised by each judge – these included a variety of marks and blinds, testing handlers and dogs alike over challenging ground.

Some of those competing were new members to the Vale of York and for some it was their first test too. Here’s hoping they have all got the “bug” and we will see them again soon.

Huge congratulations to all in the awards – they were as follows:

1st Charmpark Kelmarsh handled by Simon Harvey

2nd Riverview Farm Stanton of Garronpoint handled by Annette Clarke

3rd Mekoro Pot Luck handled by Jane Pilling

4th Diglake Able of Garronpoint

COM Cardueae Emilia handled by Rebecca Thistle

COM Cardueae Dianthus of Tarnedge handled by Eden Parish

Our winner of the day – Simon Harvey and his dog Charmpark Kelmarsh – also wins a month’s subscription to GundogTV which will hopefully stand him in good stead for his next test.

Thank you to our Judges - Paul, Margaret, Brian and Victoria - and for giving their time and expertise so generously.

As always, huge thanks to all who helped with the day’s smooth running –dummy throwers/ placers and marshalls keeping handlers on the right track and hopefully keeping the waiting times to a minimum - without these guys we cannot hold days such as these.

Finally, thanks to our sponsors – Skinners Pet Food and GundogTV.

We sincerely hope all who took part enjoyed their day.

VYWRC look forward to welcoming you to our next test to be held at Busk Hill Farm, Westow on Sunday, 2 April 2023
