The Vale of York Working Retriver Club held its Junior Handler Day on the Shoot on Saturday 16th December 2023 at Quarry Farm, Westerdale, by very kind permission of Richard Findlay. The Beaters did a great job sending the game over the guns, who shot well, delivering ample game for the youngsters to handle and train their dogs.
Our trainers, Cath Kitching and Glyn Couper, we magnificent in helping the juniors through the whole shoot procedure - steadiness through the drives, identifying the game with the handler and sending out, handling, retrieving and delivering the game to hand with their dogs. We thank Cath and Glyn so much for giving their time and expertise to help these youngsters on their gundog journey.
Despite the recent we weather we were blessed with sunshine, mild temperatures and a light breeze.
After refreshments back at the farm barn, the juniors received their awards. The Club is so grateful for the sponsorhship of Sporting Saint who provided a goody bag and gundog equipment for each child and Acme whistles for gifting a whistle. The Club also gave each child a Christmas gift bag containing more gundog items.
An interesting comment heard in the gallery was about how their dog became a bit confused about heelwork when their junior handler was cartwheeling down the beach ! the joy of a child having a gundog in their life.
..... and finally, to end a lovely day, we were treatd to a stunning sunset ! Richard has invitd us back next year and so we are looking foward to doing it all again in 2024.
