Saturday 17th December 2022 - Westerdale
By kind invitation of Mr & Mrs Richard Findlay and members of the Westerdale Shooting Syndicate
This was my first visit to the Junior Shoot Day and my thoughts were what a wonderful opportunity and experience it is for the juniors, in beautiful settings.
Once again our junior handlers enjoyed a fabulous day on the shoot at Westerdale. The weather was kind to us, although extremely cold, the sun came out shining!
We had four participants and 7 dogs, the youngest being Alfred who was four years old!
There were three drives with a good number of birds, including woodcock, thanks to the beaters and the guns who shot well. It was fantastic to see how well the juniors worked with their dogs and there were plenty of lovely retrieves.
At the end of training, we all went back for much appreciated homemade soup and hot dogs, thanks to Linda, which went down a treat.
An extra big thank you goes to our trainers Glyn Coupar and Cath Kitching who do an absolutely brilliant job instructing our juniors on shooting etiquette and dog handling, making it a fantastic experience for the them.
Also, a big thank you to Jane, Simon and Bailey who did a marvellous job picking up and spotting for us and committee members Linda and Liz for their invaluable help.
Finally, a huge thank you goes to Richard Findlay and the Westerdale Shooting Syndicate and to all concerned in making it such a successful day and fun had by all!
The event was generously sponsored by Acme Whistles and You Pick We Mix sweets.
