VALE OF YORK WORKING RETRIEVER CLUB (KC 2263)
Novice/ Open Gundog Working Test A/V Retriever held on Saturday,
25 June 2022 at Manor Farm, Great Kelk, Driffield YO25 8HN
By kind permission of the Middlewood family
A magnificent spot by Kelk Beck was our location for the Vale of York’s Working Retriever Novice and Open Gundog Working Tests at Great Kelk yesterday – 25 June.
Our judges for the day were John Day, Tom Sagar, Glyn Sykes and Daniel Marx.
The day began with four Novice tests devised by our judges which were set alongside Kelk Beck, including two separate water retrieves – these tested all 33 novice dogs and handlers making for some great competition.
Huge well done to all those in the awards
1st: Hawksgarth Carbonado handled by Darren Thomson
2nd: Allerthorpe Lady in Pink handled by Sarah White
3rd: Conifer of Mighty Field JP handled by Maiko Isono
4th: Latushall Ziggy handled by Ralph Kleeli
COM: Magical Magi Ann handled by Wendy Donovan
COM: Stauntonvale Snow Leopard of Tildaross handled by Teresa Middlewood
COM: Beacon Banks Maggie handled by Marie Bowes

Following a most excellent lunch the day continued with the Open dogs and handlers. Again, the tests devised proved challenging resulting in a run off for 2nd and 3rd places. Congratulations to all those in the awards – very well deserved – they were:
1st: Dark Cloud of the Skye handled by Penny Marriner
2nd: Isle of Man Cristen handled by Steve Townsend
3rd: Latushall Ziggy handled Ralph Kleeli
4th: Haguehall Arizona handled by Kathryn Bromfield
COM: Harebor Barley Sugar at Griffontee handled by Tina Bateman
COM: Luisenga Osprey handled by Darren Thomson

The day, of course, could not have gone ahead without the help and support we receive from the Committee and Members alike. The dummy throwers where marvellous and a special mention must go to Liz Robinson - top Gator driver – who delivered dummies, dogs and handlers back and forth throughout the day – starting off rather tortoise-like, but by the end of the day all I can say is watch out Lewis Hamilton!!!
Extra special thanks to the Middlewood family for allowing us to run our event - the work they underwent in preparing the ground to create some cracking tests was tremendous.
To the brilliant judges – John, Tom, Glyn and Daniel – thank you for giving your Saturday over to the Club – it was greatly appreciated and we hope you enjoyed yourselves too.
Thanks to Skinners Pet Foods Ltd, The Village Bar (Claire Carvis) and Bracken Burrows Glamping (Nick Gooder) for their generous sponsorship of the day.
I sincerely hope everyone who attended yesterday enjoyed themselves and we hope to see you at our next event on Sunday, 7 August at Hackness – an exciting new ground in a most beautiful part of North Yorkshire.
What better way to spend a Saturday in good company. Thanks again to all...
Lucy Eggleston
