Training Day Saturday 13 May 2023 at Cawood
On Saturday morning our Chairman, Claire Carvis, welcomed members to our training day for Novice Dogs and Puppies at the gundog training ground at Cawood.
The Novice dogs were split into two groups with training on walk-up, marks, crossing marks and blinds. The trainers spent time with each handler helping them to move forward with training their Novice dogs. In the afternoon Working Test scenarios were set up by the trainers with every handler being given individual advice to take forward to their next Working Test.
In the Puppy group the emphasis was placed on training the handlers to get embedded the basic foundations required for gundog competing and working with their youngsters. They had a well-earned rest in the afternoon!
The trainers were impressed with the standard already achieved by those attending and enjoyed working with the handlers and dogs. The Club gives most grateful thanks to Brian Dodsworth, Becki Thistle and Sheila Tait for training the dogs. Claire and Committee members Linda Barrett, Matt Jenkinson, Mark Wilson and Teresa Middlewood all played a vital role helping make the day run smoothly and successfully – thank you!
The Club gives a very special thank you to Mark Wilson for allowing us to use his lovely ground at Cawood.
The weather was kind to us with cool, cloudy conditions until mid-afternoon when the sun broke through.
We hope that the handlers enjoyed their day with us and went home enthused about continuing the gundog training journey!
Our next events are an Open Walked-Up Working Test at Fimber on 21 May and a training evening at Red House Wood nr York on 8 June.
